Get involved helping displaced children

A "complex and unpredictable security situation” in Tigray continues to impede the delivery of life-saving assistance to Ethiopia’s northern region says the Deputy UN Spokesperson, Faraq Han.

There are an estimated 4.5 million people needing emergency food since the onset of the war, many of those impacted are young children. Bread a Day was established out of urgency to help alleviate child hunger.

The capital of Tigray, Mekelle, shelters thousands of internally displaced children. A Bread a Day partners with local bread-making businesses in Mekelle to provide this life saving food aid.

When the mission of Bread a Day began, we were only able to feed 250 children daily. With donations from friends and family we can now feed 1050 children per day.

While bread is not considered a nutritious meal,it is the best option remembering resources are extremely limited. Power outages present an additional challenge. Bread is the best alternative since it can be prepared on an outside stove if necessary. By partnering with local bread factories we are able to ensure each child receives bread daily.
